Presenter: Jordan Klein, City of Berkeley Interim Director of Planning & Development
The Director is the administrative head of the Department and is responsible for its planning, organization, financial management and effective operation. Specific oversight includes comprehensive City planning, building code enforcement, zoning, redevelopment and toxics management. As Interim Director, Mr. Klein is responsible for all aspects of physical planning, including transportation, capital improvement planning for the City, interpretation of related codes, ordinances and regulations, ensuring compliance with local, state and federal law, and managing revision of the City's general plan.
Mr. Klein was previously the City’s Economic Development Manager for almost four years, having worked in Economic Development starting in 2014. Prior to his tenure in Berkeley, Mr. Klein worked for the City and County of San Francisco in the Neighborhood Economic Development Office. Mr. Klein holds a Masters of City Planning from UC Berkeley and an undergraduate degree from Northwestern University.
